Buganda Sub-county Chiefs Seek Kingdom Intervention in Nakawa Land Dispute

Sub-county chiefs serving under Buganda Kingdom in Mumyuka Nakawa Sub-county have appealed to the Kingdom leadership to intervene in a longstanding land dispute affecting their sub-county headquarters.

The chiefs, led by their head Ssekitoleko James, raised the concerns during a meeting with the Kingdom’s Kaggo, Hajji Ahmed Matovu, held at Nagulu Community Hall.

According to the chiefs, the land on which their official headquarters is located is currently the subject of a court case and also involves the military, a situation that has left the sub-county administration without a functional office for an extended period.

They explained that the absence of a permanent headquarters has greatly disrupted their work and made it difficult to effectively carry out their duties in serving the Kingdom.

“We have spent a long time without an official sub-county headquarters, and this has greatly affected our work and coordination,” the chiefs said during the meeting.

In response, Kaggo Hajji Ahmed Matovu reassured the chiefs that the matter would be brought to the attention of the Kingdom leadership for further consultation.

“I will consult with the Kingdom leadership on how this issue can begin to be handled,” Matovu told the meeting.

He also reminded the chiefs of the important role they play in implementing the programs and representing the authority of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II across the areas where they are deployed.

“Your role in the service of the Kabaka is very important. Continue working hard and ensure that wherever you serve, you represent Buganda well,” he said.

During the meeting, the chiefs also presented several other operational challenges affecting their work. Among the concerns raised were the lack of official uniforms for the chiefs, the absence of a motorcycle that is supposed to be allocated to Mumyuka Nakawa Sub-county to facilitate field work, and other logistical constraints.

The chiefs said these challenges continue to limit their ability to effectively serve communities and implement Kingdom programs at the grassroots level.

The visit by Hajji Ahmed Matovu forms part of an ongoing tour across various sub-counties where he and his deputies are meeting chiefs to assess the challenges affecting their work and explore possible solutions.

The tour is intended to strengthen coordination within Buganda Kingdom structures and ensure that sub-county administrators are better equipped to deliver services and mobilize communities in support of the Kingdom’s programs
